Why 20 seconds feels too long today!

You click on something and watch it at 2x speed. You order food and keep tracking it every few minutes. You send a message and check if they’ve replied.

Waiting, even for a few seconds, feels uncomfortable now.

But it didn’t always feel like this.

The world around you has quietly sped up. From instant deliveries to endless short-form content, everything is designed to be faster, easier, and more immediate. Companies compete on speed. Apps reward you instantly. And without realising it, your brain adapts to this constant flow of quick rewards.

So now, anything slow feels like a problem. It’s not just a habit but it’s conditioning. Every scroll, every notification, every quick dopamine hit trains your mind to expect instant results. Over time, your tolerance for delay shrinks. Even normal waiting starts to feel frustrating.

And here’s what most people don’t notice. It’s not just your patience that’s changing, your sense of time is shifting too. What used to feel normal now feels slow, because you’ve experienced faster versions of everything.

The solution isn’t to force patience. It’s to slowly step out of this loop. Let things take time. Do one thing without switching. Sit through small moments of waiting without reaching for distraction. It feels strange at first. But that’s the reset. Because maybe the world isn’t the only thing that’s speeding up, maybe you’ve just forgotten what a natural pace feels like.
