Heatwaves are silently damaging your sleep and heart health!

Heatwaves are no longer just a daytime problem. Experts say nighttime heatwaves are becoming increasingly dangerous because the body doesn’t get enough time to cool down and recover after extreme daytime temperatures. When nights remain hot and humid, the body stays under continuous heat stress, which can seriously affect sleep, heart health, and overall recovery.
Normally, the body cools itself during sleep by lowering its core temperature. But during extremely hot nights, this process becomes difficult. High humidity also prevents sweat from evaporating properly, making the body feel even hotter. As a result, many people experience disturbed sleep, dehydration, fatigue, headaches, and increased stress on the heart.
Doctors warn that continuous exposure to warm nights can increase the risk of high blood pressure, cardiovascular strain, heat exhaustion, and dehydration, especially among elderly people, children, and people with existing health conditions. Cities are facing this issue more intensely because concrete buildings, roads, and reduced greenery trap heat even after sunset - a phenomenon known as the urban heat island effect.
Many people are also noticing that cities which once had cooler nights now remain unusually warm, making proper sleep increasingly difficult during summer months.
Experts recommend staying hydrated, improving ventilation, reducing screen time before bed, and keeping sleeping spaces as cool as possible during heatwave periods.
