As temperatures rise across India, summer becomes one of the best seasons for spotting colourful and fascinating birds. From gardens and lakes to forests and city parks, several bird species become more visible during this time as they search for water, food, and nesting spaces. Their bright feathers, unique calls, and active movements make birdwatching especially exciting in summer.
One commonly spotted bird is the Indian Roller, famous for its stunning blue wings that become even more visible while flying. The Asian Koel, known for its loud and repetitive calls, is another summer favourite often heard early in the morning. Many people also spot the vibrant Rose-ringed Parakeet, usually seen flying in noisy groups around trees and residential areas.
Near water bodies, birds like the elegant White-throated Kingfisher and Little Egret are frequently visible hunting for fish and insects. In gardens and urban spaces, the cheerful Purple Sunbird attracts attention with its shiny metallic feathers and quick movements between flowers.
Another striking summer visitor is the Black Drongo, recognized for its fearless nature and forked tail. Despite its small size, it is known to chase away larger birds to protect its territory.
Summer birdwatching not only offers beautiful sights but also helps people connect more closely with nature and wildlife around them.
