After serving the Indian Army for nearly four decades, Major General Ashim Kohli chose to continue serving the nation in a unique way. Instead of preserving his retired uniforms as memories, he decided to give them a new purpose. Along with his daughter, he launched an initiative that transforms old army uniforms into school bags for children who cannot afford basic educational supplies.
The initiative encourages soldiers and officers across the country to donate their worn uniforms. These uniforms are carefully cleaned, stitched, and converted into durable school bags that are distributed to children living in remote and underprivileged regions. Even damaged or torn fabric is reused by converting it into useful items like diaries and masks, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
So far, thousands of uniforms have been repurposed, helping students carry their books with pride. This initiative not only promotes sustainability but also keeps the spirit of service alive, proving that dedication to the country never truly retires.
