At Miranda House, one of Delhi University’s most prestigious women’s colleges, sustainability is not just taught - it is practiced daily. The campus has quietly transformed into a green model by blending eco-friendly habits into student life. Solar panels installed across the campus help reduce electricity consumption, while solar streetlights and water heaters support hostel and campus facilities efficiently.
The college also focuses strongly on waste management. Food leftovers, garden waste, and biodegradable materials are converted into compost, which is later used to maintain the campus gardens. Paper waste from academic and administrative work is recycled into useful products like envelopes and folders, promoting a circular economy within the campus.
Water conservation is another major priority. Rainwater harvesting systems and water reuse techniques help maintain greenery even during dry seasons. Through these thoughtful initiatives, Miranda House is setting an inspiring example, proving that sustainable living is possible when institutions and students work together.
