The Indian Test squad, led by newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, has begun full-scale training in England ahead of the much-anticipated five-match series starting June 20 in Leeds. The sessions, held at iconic venues like Lord’s Indoor Centre and Beckenham, featured high-intensity drills including "foot tennis", sprinting, fielding, and seam-ball adaptation under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir.
With senior stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having retired, this series marks a significant generational shift. Opportunities have opened for young talents like KL Rahul, who notched a century in the Northampton warm-up, and Sai Sudharsan, who earned his maiden Test squad selection.
Gill, India’s 37th Test captain, will lead a refreshed side as they aim for their first Test series win in England since 2007. The campaign kicks off the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle, presenting India a clear shot at their maiden WTC title
