In India, jewellery isn’t just fashion-it’s identity. And when it comes to weddings, the divide between North and South India’s jewellery styles is as deep as their cultures.
In South India, bridal jewellery is all about pure gold, tradition, and divine connection. Inspired by Chola-era temple designs, brides wear Lakshmi haar, Kasu mala, and mango motifs. These heavy gold pieces often have religious significance and are considered sacred symbols of prosperity and legacy.
On the other hand, North Indian bridal jewellery is all about sparkle and sophistication. Kundan and Polki sets-originally introduced by the Mughals-use uncut diamonds and gemstones, often crafted in Jaipur. Northern brides layer up with ornate maang tikas, haathphools, and statement necklaces for a royal, dramatic look.
While traditions still dominate, modern brides are blending both styles-mixing gold with gemstones, or temple jewellery with Polki to reflect personal expression. It’s no longer just about where you’re from, but who you are.
