The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that India and Sri Lanka will jointly host the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, marking a major return of the global event to the subcontinent. According to the schedule released this week, the tournament opener and first semifinal will be held at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, while the final will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s largest cricket venue.
The second semifinal will be hosted in Chennai, bringing the action to three of India’s most historic grounds.
The event will feature 20 teams, divided into four groups of five, followed by a Super Eight stage and knockouts, similar to the 2024 format. The decision aims to balance crowd capacity, weather conditions, and regional fan enthusiasm across India.
The Narendra Modi Stadium, which has hosted key ICC finals in recent years, including the 2023 ODI World Cup final, is expected to draw massive attendance. The Wankhede and Chennai’s M.A. Chidambaram Stadium will bring their traditional energy and coastal flavor to the world stage once again.
Cricket fans can expect official ticketing and detailed fixture announcements by mid-2026 as preparations ramp up for one of the sport’s biggest spectacles.
