In Srinagar, the valleys of Kashmir are grappling with rising air pollution and dwindling snowfall - a far cry from the snow-covered winters of youth. Curve Electric, founded in 2022 by friends Sheikh Yameen and Zubair Ahmed Bhat, offers a two-fold solution: combat vehicle-driven pollution and build a viable business. The e-bike rental service is tailored for Kashmir’s challenging terrain, featuring switch-modes (manual and electric), high-torque motors and detachable batteries.
Since launch, Curve Electric has completed over 55,000 rides, covered around 7.5 lakh kilometres and saved carbon emissions equivalent to what 7,500 trees would offset.  Their revenue reached about Rs 30 lakh in the last year, with projections pointing higher. By offering rentals at just Rs 6 per minute and bypassing complex app-only models, they’ve made sustainable travel accessible for locals and tourists alike. With pollution and traffic choking the valley, this venture symbolizes how grassroots entrepreneurship can drive both environmental and economic change.
