Following India’s narrow 22-run loss to England in the third Test at Lord’s, former 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal has appealed to Virat Kohli to reconsider his Test retirement. Lal emphasized Kohli’s unmatched passion and argued that his strong performance and leadership would greatly benefit India’s red-ball lineup .
Lal said, “There’s nothing wrong with returning. Virat is passionate, fit, and mentally strong. The team needs him - especially in high-pressure situations,” adding that Kohli could easily play another one to two years and help guide younger players . His plea echoes growing concerns over India’s middle order and the need for seasoned performers following his departure earlier this year.
Kohli retired from Tests in May 2025 before the England tour, focusing on limited-overs cricket. The dramatic loss at Lord’s, where key wickets fell under pressure, has intensified calls from fans and experts for his return. With two Tests remaining in this series - and the Ashes looming - this heartfelt appeal from Lal underscores the potential impact of a Kohli comeback.
