India’s second-hand luxury scene is booming, especially among Gen Z and millennials who value affordability, sustainability, and individuality. The market for pre-owned luxury in India was valued at around USD 555 million (~₹46 billion) in 2022, with a projected CAGR of 12% through 2028, potentially doubling by that year.
Shoppers aged 18–40 are driving this surge, viewing luxury items not just as fashion statements but also as tradable assets and eco-conscious choices. Platforms like Luxepolis offer authenticated, pre-owned designer goods - including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Hermes - with high-quality checks and digital authentication technologies building consumer trust.
Several factors fuel this shift. Pre-loved items are available at 40–60% lower prices, making luxury attainable without sacrificing style. Meanwhile, younger consumers increasingly prioritize sustainability and aim to reduce fashion’s carbon footprint.
As Gen Z in India redefines luxury - valuing ethos and experience over ostentation - the resale ecosystem stands at the heart of a circular, conscious fashion revolution.
