In the United States, Gujaratis especially from Gujarat districts like Navsari, Surat, and Anand dominate motel ownership, controlling over 60 % of such establishments across the country. Their model is intensely hands-on: families live on the property, clean rooms, run front desks, and reinvest profits into growth. But this closeness to operations comes with danger: in 2025 alone, seven Gujaratis tied to the motel industry were killed in violent episodes across multiple states.
