In a sensational climax to the fifth Test at The Oval, India pulled off a stunning six-run victory over England, bringing the five-match series to a 2–2 draw, with one match drawn in the middle. It was a thrilling showcase of resilience and tactical brilliance under pressure.
England appeared poised for victory, needing just 35 runs with four wickets in hand on Day 5. However, Indian pace duo Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna struck crucial blows: Siraj bowled Atkinson in the 85th over, and Krishna wrapped up the innings with the final wicket to secure the win.
Siraj’s four-wicket haul, which earned praise from former England captain Michael Atherton, and Krishna’s disciplined planning - particularly the trap that dismissed Ben Duckett - were pivotal. Despite a costly fielding error earlier - Siraj stepping on the boundary on a catch attempt - he recovered with intensity and focus.
India’s lower-order fightback was equally vital. The packed stands and deteriorating weather added to the drama, making this one of the most memorable finishes in recent Test history.
