Is this the end of smartphones? Meta thinks so…

At its Connect 2025 event in Menlo Park, Meta unveiled its first consumer-ready smart glasses with a built-in display. CEO Mark Zuckerberg positioned these glasses as a step toward making wearable devices the next major computing platform after smartphones.

The company showcased three new smart glasses models, each catering to different user needs, but the highlight was the display-enabled version. These AI-powered glasses are designed to blend style with utility, offering features like real-time information, enhanced communication, and immersive digital experiences directly in the user’s line of sight.

Meta’s strategy reflects a wider tech industry push to move beyond smartphones and create AI-powered personal devices that feel natural and seamless. By merging fashion with advanced technology, Meta aims to normalize wearables in daily life.

While adoption may take time, experts suggest smart glasses could transform how people work, connect, and consume information, potentially rivaling the smartphone’s impact. With this launch, Meta is signaling its determination to lead in the next era of computing.
