Royal Recipes, Modern Plates: Manzilat brings Nawabi Lucknow to Kolkata!

In the heart of Kolkata, Manzilat Fatima carries forward a royal culinary legacy that traces back to the last Nawab of Awadh, Wajid Ali Shah. As his great-great-granddaughter, she runs Manzilat’s, a home diner in Kasba Industrial Estate, where she serves authentic Awadhi dishes passed down through generations.

The story of Kolkata Biryani is intertwined with Nawab Wajid Ali Shah's exile to Kolkata in 1856. Accompanied by his royal chefs, he introduced the traditional Awadhi biryani to the city. However, due to resource constraints, the chefs innovated by adding potatoes and boiled eggs to the dish, creating the distinct Kolkata Biryani known today.

Manzilat's culinary journey began as a passion for hosting guests and sharing her family's rich food heritage. Over time, this passion transformed into a thriving business, earning her recognition as a prominent food entrepreneur in Kolkata.

Through her diner, Manzilat not only serves delectable dishes but also educates patrons about the deep-rooted connections between Lucknow's Nawabs and Kolkata's culinary traditions.
