Echoes of Earth, conceived in 2016 by Roshan Netalkar in Bengaluru, reimagines the music festival as a sustainable climate movement where rhythm meets responsibility, not refuse. Traditional festival waste is replaced by intentional design: stages are crafted from recycled and upcycled materials, art installations are sculpted from e-waste and scrap, and the event omits single-use plastics entirely.
The festival enforces zero-waste policies via RO water filtration and communal steel tumblers, composting and recycling all refuse, and channeling solar energy to power around 20% of its operations, including at least one fully solar-powered stage. In 2024, the festival attracted over 26,000 attendees and impressively diverted all waste from landfills.
Echoes of Earth extends beyond two days: its The Greener Side initiative runs year-long conservation workshops, nature walks, and outreach programs, reaching over 20,000 people and saving more than 11,700 kg of new materials through creative reuse. With global recognition like nominations at the 2025 International AGF Awards, the festival underscores that large-scale entertainment can be vibrant, inclusive, and ecological.
