According to a recent BCG global survey of over 10,000 employees across industries, 41% of respondents fear that AI may replace them at work. While frontline roles are evolving rapidly with automation and generative AI tools, what’s striking is the rising anxiety among managers and mid-level leadership.
The report reveals that concerns are no longer limited to routine or manual jobs - decision-making and knowledge-based roles are also at risk. Many managers now fear becoming redundant as AI takes over tasks like data analysis, performance reviews, and even strategic planning.
Interestingly, employees in tech-forward companies were more likely to feel secure, while those in slower-moving industries reported higher uncertainty. BCG noted that companies embracing reskilling and human-AI collaboration models see better morale and lower fear levels.
The findings reflect a broader shift in workplace dynamics, where AI is reshaping not just how people work - but who does the work. The question for many is no longer if AI will change their job - but when.
