Headaches are usually caused by stress, dehydration, or screen time, and often go away with rest or medication. However, persistent or severe headaches can be a sign of something more serious. According to Dr. Gopal Shukla (Director, Neurosurgery, Paras Health, Kanpur), staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, and managing stress can prevent most headaches.
But when headaches are sudden, intense, disrupt sleep, or are paired with blurred vision, vomiting, seizures, or confusion, it could signal brain issues, including rare cases of brain tumours. These headaches tend to worsen over time and don’t respond to normal treatments.
The brain itself doesn’t feel pain, but surrounding tissues do. So, if symptoms are unusual or long-lasting, consult a doctor immediately. Early diagnosis is key in identifying serious conditions and improving outcomes.
