Tesla has emerged as the frontrunner in China's recent evaluation of Level 2 Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS), surpassing domestic competitors such as BYD, Xiaomi, and Huawei. The assessment, a collaboration between state broadcaster CCTV and Bytedance's automotive division Dcar, tested over 20 electric vehicle brands under challenging highway and urban driving conditions. Tesla's Model 3 and Model X excelled, successfully navigating five out of six scenarios. In contrast, BYD's Denza Z9GT and Huawei-backed Aito M9 failed three scenarios, while Xiaomi's SU7 managed to pass only one.
Elon Musk highlighted this achievement on social media, noting that Tesla's vision-based ADAS system achieved top results despite restrictions on local data training due to U.S. laws prohibiting AI software training in China. He emphasized that Tesla's success came "despite having no local training data." This accomplishment underscores Tesla's technological edge in autonomous driving capabilities, even in markets with stringent data regulations.
The test results, shared by Dcar, quickly gained traction on Chinese social media platforms, sparking widespread public interest and discussions about the future of autonomous driving technology in China.
