In a commendable rescue operation, more than 1,600 pilgrims en route to Kedarnath were safely evacuated after heavy overnight rains triggered landslides in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district. The downpour, occurring between 1 and 4 am, led to boulders blocking a 30-meter stretch of the trek route near Gaurikund. Additionally, water and debris entered several homes in nearby villages.
Relief efforts commenced at 6 am, involving teams from the district administration, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other departments. An alternative route was swiftly established to facilitate the evacuation. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami monitored the situation closely, directing officials to prioritize the safety and well-being of the pilgrims. Relief camps have been set up to provide shelter, food, and medical assistance to those affected.
The prompt and coordinated response by the authorities ensured that there was no loss of human or animal life. Efforts are ongoing to clear debris and restore normalcy in the region. This incident underscores the importance of preparedness and swift action in the face of natural calamities.
