In a dramatic emergency at Jhansi Railway Station on July 5, 2025, Major Rohit Bachwala, a 31-year-old Medical Officer with the Army Medical Corps, stepped forward to deliver a baby girl using only a hair clip and a pocket knife -t ools he had on hand while waiting for his train to Hyderabad .
When a pregnant woman aboard the Panvel–Gorakhpur Express went into distress at the station, Major Bachwala immediately created a makeshift delivery space with the help of railway staff. He used the hair clip to clamp the umbilical cord and the pocket knife to cut it, ensuring the baby’s stability before hospital transport.
Both mother and newborn are now stable after being transferred to a local hospital. The incident left bystanders amazed and earned Major Bachwala praise from Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi for his swift, selfless professionalism .
Major Bachwala later resumed his journey - emphasizing that "doctors must be prepared for emergencies at all times." His actions serve as a powerful reminder of human compassion and courage in unexpected moments
