Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Buenos Aires on July 4, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian PM to Argentina in 57 years. Hosted with a ceremonial welcome at Ezeiza International Airport, Modi is set to meet President Javier Milei at Casa Rosada for detailed bilateral talks.
This visit, the third leg of his five-nation tour, will focus on deepening cooperation across various sectors - including agriculture, critical minerals like lithium, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment . Argentina holds the world’s second-largest shale gas reserves and significant lithium deposits, crucial to India’s clean energy ambitions.
Discussions are expected to cover mining, renewable energy, defence, and people‑to‑people ties. Modi emphasized the partnership's mutual benefits, describing Argentina as a "key economic partner in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G20".
The trip follows agreements signed in Trinidad & Tobago and precedes visits to Brazil for the BRICS summit and Namibia, highlighting India’s strategic outreach to Latin America.
