External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to visit China from July 13–16, marking his first trip since the 2020 Ladakh military standoff. He will meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, before heading to Tianjin to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) foreign ministers’ meeting on July 14–15.
This high-level visit is part of sustained efforts to normalize India-China ties. Already this year, NSAs and defence ministers have met, and troop disengagement agreements along the Line of Actual Control have been partially implemented . The upcoming talks will stress border de-escalation, boosting trade, restarting direct flights, and people-to-people exchange.
In a sign of advancing diplomacy, China’s FM Wang Yi is also likely to visit India later this month to hold another round of Special Representatives-level talks with NSA Ajit Doval on the boundary dispute . Both engagements - ministerial in China and SR-level in India - signal a cautious but deliberate thaw aimed at resolving longstanding issues and building mutual trust ahead of the SCO summit later this year.
