Road splits open in Gurugram, liquor truck swallowed in the fall! Watch video

A liquor-laden truck plunged into a massive crater after a sudden cave-in on Gurugram’s Southern Peripheral Road late Wednesday night. The incident, captured on a viral video, occurred at around 10:30 PM amid heavy rainfall sweeping through Delhi–NCR. The road collapse happened moments before the truck, which was transporting beer bottles to a godown, tried to pass over it. Although the driver sustained only minor injuries and later recorded his statement with the police, the overturned vehicle has remained stranded in the deep pit since then.

Local officials say the collapse was triggered by intense water accumulation; Gurugram recorded an extraordinary 133 mm of rain in just 12 hours—with 103 mm falling in a 90-minute span. The incident occurred near an area where recent sewage pipeline work was underway—raising questions about the stability of the road’s understructure.

This sudden collapse exacerbated already worsening traffic conditions, with many nearby stretches—such as Basai, Golf Course Extension Road, Rajiv Chowk, and areas along the Delhi–Gurugram Expressway—suffering from severe waterlogging and gridlock. Authorities have launched a technical inspection, and the India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert forecasting continued heavy rainfall for the next 24–48 hours.
