On Monday, July 21, 2025, Air India Flight AI2403, bound for Kolkata, aborted its take-off at 155 km/h on the runway at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Airbus A321 aircraft, carrying 160 passengers, was accelerating when pilots detected a technical issue and - following standard operating procedures - applied the brakes to halt the take-off.
An Air India spokesperson stated, “Flight AI2403…has been rescheduled to depart later this evening, necessitated by a technical issue detected during the take-off roll. The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the take‑off…All passengers have disembarked, and our ground colleagues in Delhi are extending support…Passenger safety remains top priority”.
Airport officials confirmed that the aircraft taxied back safely and that passengers disembarked without incident. This marks the second Air India safety incident this week—the airline recently received nine show-cause notices in the past six months over safety violations, and faced intense scrutiny following the crash of Flight AI171, which killed 260 people in June.
Investigations are underway, and both pilots have been derostered pending inquiry, as the Civil Aviation Ministry reassures that no adverse trend in reliability has been observed
