Schools in several parts of India are operating under exceptional schedules on November 14, driven by a mix of election duties and deteriorating air quality. In Bihar, many institutions remain closed because they are being repurposed as polling booths or accommodation centres during ongoing bye-elections. Meanwhile in Telangana, schools have extended their holidays to coincide with election preparation and counting days, especially in Hyderabad and surrounding districts, with many students informed via SMS or school-apps.
In the National Capital Region, including Delhi, schools are continuing in a hybrid mode (in-person plus online) for younger classes under the GRAP-III (Graded Response Action Plan) restrictions as air-pollution levels remain high. Parents are given the choice between online or classroom attendance; should the Air Quality Index worsen, a full switch to online is possible.
Despite some regions declaring full holidays, most other Indian states are proceeding with regular school operations, though many are keeping a close watch on weather and pollution advisories. Education authorities stress the importance of staying connected with official channels — school websites, WhatsApp groups, and notifications — because arrangements can change at short notice for safety and operational reasons.
