Think building a strong bond with your dog needs hours of training? Turns out, just 10 minutes of play daily can change everything. A recent study found that short, interactive play sessions can significantly deepen the emotional connection between dogs and their owners.
What matters isn’t how long you play, but how you play. Activities like tug-of-war, chasing, or hide-and-seek-where both you and your dog actively engage-work far better than routine training. Surprisingly, reward-based training helped dogs learn skills but didn’t strengthen emotional closeness the same way.
The study also highlighted something powerful: even adult or rescue dogs can build strong bonds through play, not just puppies. Within just a few weeks, owners reported feeling more connected, and dogs became more responsive and affectionate.
In a world where we’re always busy, these small moments of play can create deeper trust, happiness, and companionship-proving that connection doesn’t need hours, just genuine attention.
