Tamil Nadu’s monsoon season reveals a captivating array of offbeat destinations—each offering misty hills, lush forests, and hidden waterfalls far from typical tourist routes. From serene lakefront escapes to rugged trekking retreats, here are some lesser-known spots worth exploring:
Vattaparai Falls (Kanyakumari district) – Located within the Keeriparai forest, these 40 m cascades flow through untouched woodland. Visitors can bathe in its medicinal waters and enjoy wildlife sightings in a serene, undeveloped setting.
Kamarajar Lake (Dindigul district) – A vast 400-acre, monsoon-fed reservoir nestled below the Western Ghats. The surrounding trails offer birdwatching opportunities—with kingfishers, cranes, and sunbirds—alongside eco‑resorts and panoramic treks.
Ulakkai Aruvi Falls (Nagercoil) – A twin waterfall tucked deep in the Asambu Reserve Forest. A scenic 2 km trek brings you to these dramatic falls, best experienced when swollen during the rains.
Kumbakkarai Falls (Theni district) – Two-tiered cascades along the Pambar River, perfect for bathing. Built facilities make them accessible, and their flow peaks during the monsoon.
Suruli Falls (Theni district) – A majestic 190‑ft, two-stage waterfall famed in Tamil literature. With adjacent caves and medicinal springs, it’s a culturally and visually rich monsoon gem.
