Many people still believe that cutting hair frequently makes it grow faster. But according to dermatologist Dr Pravin Banodkar, this is just a myth. Hair grows from the scalp, not the ends - so trimming only helps in removing split ends and giving the hair a healthier appearance. It does not change the hair’s biological growth rate.
Another popular misconception is that daily shampooing leads to hair fall. Dr Banodkar clarifies that the hair seen falling during a wash is already in the shedding (telogen) phase. Unless a harsh shampoo causes inflammation, daily washing does not trigger hair loss.
A third myth is that overnight oiling boosts hair growth. In reality, oils can't penetrate deep into the scalp due to their molecular size. They help keep the scalp and hair follicles healthy but don’t directly stimulate growth. Scalp massage, on the other hand, can improve blood circulation and slightly aid growth.
Understanding these facts can save time, money, and your hair’s health. Trust science, not superstition!
