Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, Instagram has restricted access to several Pakistani celebrities' accounts in India. Profiles of actors Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, Sanam Saeed, Bilal Abbas, and Sajal Aly now display the message “Account not available in India” due to compliance with legal requests. However, Instagram accounts of Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, Mawra Hocane, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan remain accessible, sparking widespread curiosity and debate online. The move follows India's crackdown on 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including Dawn News and ARY News, for spreading provocative and misleading content.
These digital measures come in the aftermath of The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy, claiming responsibility for the Pahalgam attack. In response, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, shut the Attari border crossing, and downgraded diplomatic ties, as evidence mounts of cross-border links to the attack.
