The April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, has intensified India-Pakistan tensions. US President Donald Trump called it a "bad one" aboard Air Force One, noting the centuries-old Kashmir conflict. Trump, claiming closeness to both nations, believes India and Pakistan will resolve the issue. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, expelled Pakistani military attaches, and shut the Attari post. Pakistan retaliated by closing its airspace to Indian airlines and suspending trade. Pakistan deemed India's water flow suspension an "act of war."
Iran offered mediation, and Saudi Arabia engaged both nations diplomatically. Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to pursue the attackers relentlessly. The National Investigation Agency continues probing the Lashkar-e-Taiba-led attack, one of the deadliest since the 2019 Pulwama bombing. As diplomatic and military measures escalate, the region teeters on the edge of further conflict.
