In a shocking turn of events, two journalists were arrested in Noida for allegedly attempting to extort ₹65 crore from a media channel owner. Shazia Nisar, a former anchor at Bharat 24, and Adarsh Jha, linked to a digital news platform, reportedly threatened the owner with false accusations of sexual harassment and rape unless he paid them a huge sum.
The duo initially demanded ₹5 crore, which later escalated to ₹65 crore, as per police sources. Acting on the complaint, Noida Police arrested both individuals and recovered ₹34.5 lakh in cash, mobile phones, laptops, and a car from their possession. Multiple FIRs have been filed by the channel's owner, HR head, and consulting editor.
Both journalists have been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. The case has sent ripples through media circles, raising serious questions about ethics, misuse of power, and the impact such actions can have on genuine victims. Investigations are ongoing to determine if others were involved in the scheme.
