The Norway Chess 2025 concluded on Friday with Magnus Carlsen clinching his seventh title in a dramatic final round. Carlsen drew with Arjun Erigaisi in a tense classical game turning a near loss into a stunning counterattack to secure 16 points. Meanwhile Fabiano Caruana defeated D Gukesh after the Indian grandmaster's heartbreaking blunder in a time scramble costing him a chance at the title. Caruana finished second with 15.5 points while Gukesh took third with 14.5 points. Carlsen told ANI he felt relieved calling the tournament a rollercoaster but highlighted his ability to outplay younger opponents.
Despite the loss Gukesh showcased his prowess with a maiden classical win over Carlsen in Round 6. Carlsen praised the Indian duo but noted to Chess24 that Gukesh is not ahead of other top grandmasters. The tournament underscored Carlsen's resilience and the rising talent of Indias chess stars.
