The ICC has penalised England for maintaining a slow over rate during their 22-run victory over India in the third Test at Lord's. The Ben Stokes-led side was fined 10% of their match fee and docked two crucial World Test Championship points after being found two overs short of the required quota.
Match referee Richie Richardson confirmed the sanction, with captain Ben Stokes accepting the penalty without contest. Under ICC rules, teams lose 5% of match fees and one WTC point per over short. Despite Stokes' Player of the Match performance, bowling 24 overs and claiming three wickets in India's second innings, England's slow bowling rate overshadowed their dramatic Day 5 victory.
The points deduction could prove costly in the competitive WTC table, with the fourth Test beginning July 23 in Manchester.
