In a pivotal session today, the BJP Parliamentary Board, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President J.P. Nadda, and other senior leaders, formally selected Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA's) candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election. The vote is scheduled for September 9.
Governor Radhakrishnan’s candidacy was confirmed in the evening by BJP president Nadda, marking the culmination of internal deliberations. Widely seen as a seasoned BJP statesman with deep governance experience, his nomination underscores the alliance’s strategic approach in choosing a high-profile, reliable figure.
The decision follows NDA’s earlier authorization to PM Modi and Nadda to finalize the nominee and precedes the nomination deadline set for August 21, as part of the election timeline leading up to the September vote.
With the ruling coalition holding a comfortable majority in Parliament, Radhakrishnan’s election is broadly viewed as the likely outcome. This move not only reflects consensus-building within the NDA but also strategically positions the alliance ahead of parliamentary proceedings and the formal nomination process.
