On September 21, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation at 5 PM, just before the start of Navratri. The address comes at a time when major GST reforms are being rolled out from September 22, promising rate cuts across everyday goods and services as a festive-season relief ahead of Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali.
These GST changes are part of a broader rationalization of tax slabs: moving many items down to lower rates (5% & 18%), and making essentials like dairy, food products cheaper.
The government aims for this reform to put more money in people’s hands, boost consumption, encourage business during the festival season, and ease the cost burdens on common citizens. Given the timing with festivals approaching expect the announcement to emphasize economic relief, festive readiness, and tax simplification.
