Microsoft unveils "Vibe Working" with AI Agents in Office Apps!

Microsoft has introduced a new productivity paradigm called “vibe working”, debuting AI-powered Agent Mode in Excel and Word and a companion Office Agent in Copilot chat.

In Agent Mode, users can start with a simple prompt and let the AI iteratively build or refine spreadsheets or documents. The system “speaks Excel natively,” validating, correcting, and improving outputs through multiple cycles. Meanwhile, Office Agent, powered by Anthropic models, allows users to generate PowerPoint slides and Word documents directly within Copilot chat. Support for Excel in Office Agent is expected soon.

Microsoft frames this as a move toward agentic productivity, where humans and AI co-steer workflows rather than AI simply responding to single queries.  The new features are currently available in a Frontier program for U.S. Microsoft 365 users via web interfaces, with desktop support to follow.

This dual integration - combining OpenAI models in Agent Mode with Anthropic models in Office Agent - signals Microsoft’s push for a multi-model, hybrid AI ecosystem in its productivity suite.
