Gitanjali Bhutani’s journey began with a fascination for practical robots questions of “why must a person do this?” guided her into engineering. After earning a PhD from BITS Pilani, she joined Lucent Technologies and later pivoted to Amazon in 2014 a move she describes as a culture shock where junior engineers are empowered to make decisions confidently.

Within a year, she transitioned into a leadership role despite doubts about her management style or ability to lead. In 2019, she took on the risky challenge of becoming a full business and technology leader within Amazon India’s competitive pricing domain. By 2023, she led the entire tech, product, and operations stack a 4,000+ person organization driving dynamic pricing for millions of customers.

Bhutani leads by example she still codes, reads, and debugs code herself. “I cannot ask my team to do anything I wouldn’t myself,” she says a testament to her hands-on leadership. In her words, building a business leader identity required vulnerability, learning new skills, and proving her voice in rooms where she was often the youngest or the only woman.

Beyond tech, she is a passionate advocate for women in engineering mentoring fellow professionals, supporting new mothers with flexibility, and backing programs like Ramp Back, Rekindle, Atlas, and AmazeWiT. Her goal: never retire keep upskilling so she remains the brilliant, active force in every room.
