Residents across Southeast and Central Delhi are waking up to garbage-strewn streets and a pervasive stench, triggered by the expiry of long-term waste collection contracts and a delay in issuing new tenders. With firms like DDSIL (Dakshin Dilli Swachh Initiatives Limited) no longer collecting trash due to lapsed agreements, rubbish has piled up in neighborhoods such as Shaheen Bagh, Sarita Vihar, and Khizrabad, with flies and foul smells now infiltrating homes.
The core issue: the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) couldn’t renew contracts or release fresh tenders because the Standing Committee, crucial for approving financial proposals above ₹5 crore, was only recently formed after a prolonged delay . In zones from Central to West Delhi, the expired agreements and outdated equipment have disrupted collection services, leaving residents frustrated and concerned about mounting health risks.
As garbage accumulates, residents and civic officials alike are urging immediate intervention—highlighting that sanitation cannot wait for bureaucratic processes to catch up.
