YouTube has announced a major update to its monetisation rules under the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), starting July 15, 2025. As per the new policy, creators who upload copied, repetitive, or low-quality content will no longer be eligible to earn money from their videos.
This includes reaction mashups, AI-generated slideshows, or any videos that reuse someone else’s content with little to no editing. YouTube stated that these types of videos do not offer enough value to viewers and harm the platform’s overall content quality.
The goal is to promote original, creative, and valuable content. Videos that are educational, entertaining, and have unique voice or visuals will continue to be rewarded.
To qualify for monetisation, creators still need to have 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months, or 10 million valid Shorts views in 90 days. But now, originality will be strictly reviewed before approval.
This change aims to protect genuine creators and ensure that YouTube remains a platform for meaningful and high-quality content. Copy-paste channels will be demonetised.
