In a remarkable turn of fortune, Amit Shera, a resident of Kotputli in Rajasthan’s Jaipur district, became a multi-crore winner after he borrowed ₹1,000 from a friend to buy two tickets for the Punjab State Lottery Diwali Bumper 2025 while visiting Moga in Punjab. One ticket went to his wife and returned only ₹1,000; his own ticket however claimed the jackpot prize of ₹11 crore.
Shera described the win as life-changing: he expressed gratitude to the Punjab government and the lottery agency, stating that “all my grief and sorrows have vanished today.” With a deep devotion to Lord Hanuman and years of modest work, laundering his hope into a stroke of luck, Shera now plans to use the money for his children’s education, building a home and giving ₹50 lakh each to his friend’s two daughters — reflecting his sense of gratitude and sharing.
While the ticket purchase appears spontaneous, it underscores the unpredictable nature of lotteries and the power of small decisions. Shera’s story resonates both as a testament to hope and as a reminder of chance: the difference between borrowing a few hundred rupees and ending up a crorepati. Seen in a broader sense, it highlights the emotional resonance of dreams, the cultural pull of lottery participation in India, and the often unanticipated impact of a sudden windfall.
