Available across Free, Plus, Pro, and Team plans (with Edu coming soon), Study Mode is meant to transform ChatGPT into a more thoughtful learning companion. According to OpenAI, the goal is to make learning engaging and adaptive to a student’s skill level and objectives.

“Study Mode helps students not just finish something, but truly learn it,” OpenAI said in its official statement.

Interestingly, the feature does not currently support parental or school-level restrictions, meaning self-motivation plays a key role for users. OpenAI’s VP of Education, Leah Belsky, mentioned that tools for adults might be considered in the future.

With this new feature, OpenAI is attempting to strike a balance-making ChatGPT a powerful educational tool while ensuring that it supports real understanding instead of shortcut learning.
