Delhi HC draws Red Line: No DUSU Victory rallies allowed!

The Delhi High Court has banned all victory processions in the national capital following the upcoming results of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections scheduled for September 19. The bench - led by Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela - issued the order to prevent potential conflicts and maintain public order.

During the hearing, the court clarified that while it does not wish to interfere with the electoral process, it will take action if the polls are not conducted in a “satisfactory order.” It warned that failing which, the officer-bearers elected may have their functioning stopped altogether.

Authorities - including Delhi Police, DU officials, and the civil administration - have been directed to take all permissible steps to avoid untoward incidents and to ensure that election regulations are strictly followed.

The High Court has also flagged previous violations: use of luxury vehicles, tractors, JCBs, defacement of public property, and misuse of money and muscle power during campaigning. These infractions may now invite stricter consequences under court scrutiny.
