The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has introduced several new academic programmes, expanding opportunities for distance learners across India.
The M.A. in Bhagavad Gita offers a structured, two-year study of Indian knowledge traditions, covering Vedanta, Upanishads, leadership principles, ethics, and socio-political insights. It aims to help students apply the Gita’s teachings to modern challenges such as conflict resolution and environmental concerns.
In disaster management, IGNOU now provides flexible online diplomas ranging from six months to three years. These courses train learners in disaster preparedness, risk assessment, mitigation, and emergency response for both natural and man-made calamities.
For agriculture, the Diploma in Agricultural Cost Management, in collaboration with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), focuses on cost control, return maximisation, and sustainable farming. IGNOU also offers a postgraduate diploma in agribusiness to encourage entrepreneurship in the farming sector.
The new B.A. in Home Science blends theory with skill-based learning in human development, nutrition, resource management, and apparel sciences, aligning with NEP 2020 guidelines to boost employability.
With these additions, IGNOU continues to strengthen its role as a flexible, accessible education provider for diverse learners.
