F1: The Movie delivers a visceral cinematic thrill ride, showcasing breathtaking real‑event footage from Grand Prix circuits like Silverstone, Spa, Suzuka, and Abu Dhabi, captured in IMAX-level immersion thanks to Joseph Kosinski’s skilled direction. Lead Brad Pitt (as Sonny Hayes), backed by Javier Bardem and Damson Idris, brings emotional resonance to a classic mentor-comeback story—though dialogue and character depth lean into cliché.
Critics praise the racing sequences—some call them the film’s best since Top Gun: Maverick—but note a shift in quality post the initial high-powered opening, as plot momentum slackens and exposition-heavy scenes emerge. Rotten Tomatoes currently averages an 89% Tomatometer, with a Metacritic score around 70, reflecting generally favorable reviews.
Feedback from F1 drivers at the Monaco screening largely acknowledged the “Hollywood” flair and applauded the spectacle, though noted it prioritizes entertainment over technical accuracy. Entertainment outlets confirm the Vegas Grand Prix scene was shot under intense pressure—only 15 minutes on-track—with cold tires and high stakes adding realism to the visuals.
Overall, F1: The Movie excels as a thrilling, sensory-rich summer blockbuster—best experienced in theatres—though its familiar drama may limit its long-term legacy.
