Festivals are back! August is packed with celebrations.

August 2025 promises to be one of the most culturally vibrant months, as it coincides with the Hindu lunar months of Shravana and Bhadrapada, bringing a rich sequence of festivals, observances, and national homage.

  • Raksha Bandhan (August 9): Sisters tie the sacred rakhi to brothers, symbolizing protection and affection—a nationwide celebration of sibling bonds.
  • Independence Day (August 15): A patriotic pinnacle marked with flag hoisting ceremonies, cultural events, and spirited pride across the country.
  • Krishna Janmashtami (August 15–16): The divine birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, observed with overnight pujas, fasting, Dahi Handi festivities, and devotional songs across temples and homes.
  • Onam (August 26 – September 5): Kerala’s grand harvest festival with boat races, floral carpets (pookalam), feasts, and cultural dances.
  • Ganesh Chaturthi (August 27): Lord Ganesha is worshipped for wisdom and new beginnings, accompanied by community processions, idol immersion, and devotional performances.

Additionally, the month opens with Masik Durgashtami (August 1) and Aadi Perukku (August 3) in Tamil Nadu, while Kajari Teej (August 11) honors marital devotion in northern India. Shravan Mondays offer Shiva devotees continued spiritual rhythm through ritual fasts.

Shravani Mela, the iconic Kanwar pilgrimage in Deoghar, continues through Shravan—where millions of devotees carry Ganges water to the Baba Baidyanath Temple via foot over long distances.
