Tragedy struck West Bengal's Kaliganj on bypoll counting day as a young girl lost her life in a bomb explosion, sending shockwaves through the region. The incident occurred even as votes were being tallied, casting a dark shadow over the electoral process. Local residents were left stunned, and tensions ran high as news of the blast spread.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the incident, calling it "deeply disturbing",and assured that the police would take strict legal action against those responsible. “We will not tolerate violence that threatens the lives of our people, especially during democratic processes,” she stated.
Preliminary reports suggest the bomb was locally made and went off near a residential area. Police have launched an investigation, and forensic teams are on the ground collecting evidence. Security has been heightened across the district as authorities work to trace the perpetrators.
The incident raises serious concerns about law and order during elections and has sparked political outrage from opposition parties.
