Indigrid Technology is positioning itself as a key player in the "Make in India" initiative for the EV sector. Founded by Sameer Narang and Rishab Gupta, the startup focuses on high-precision electronics, specifically Battery Management Systems (BMS), motor controllers, and integrated power electronics for two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
Key Highlights of the Funding & Business:
• Lead Investor: Cactus Venture Partners led the round, marking their commitment to supporting purpose-driven tech companies. This is their second major bet in the clean-tech and electronics space within the last year.
• Core Competency: Indigrid operates as a full-stack original design manufacturer (ODM) and electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider. Their proprietary BMS and motor controllers are designed to withstand Indian environmental conditions, addressing critical safety and performance needs.
• Operational Expansion: The startup currently operates a manufacturing facility in Gurugram. The new funds will be utilized to set up a second, larger production unit and to double their engineering headcount to focus on next-gen power electronics.
• Market Opportunity: As India pushes for localized manufacturing to reduce dependence on imports (particularly from China), Indigrid serves a growing list of Indian EV OEMs who are seeking domestic, high-quality component suppliers.
Strategic Vision:
Co-founder Sameer Narang stated that the investment will help the company transition from a component supplier to a comprehensive power-train solution provider. By focusing on deep-tech R&D, Indigrid aims to reduce the "bill of materials" (BoM) for EV manufacturers, ultimately making electric vehicles more affordable for the Indian mass market.
Investor Perspective:
Amit Sharma, Partner at Cactus Venture Partners, noted that Indigrid's focus on "reliability and localization" makes them a standout in the electronics space. He highlighted that the startup’s ability to maintain high margins while scaling production was a key factor in the investment decision.
