In Bhopal, a couple turned their wedding into a powerful message about sustainability and conscious living. Ashish Garg and Neha Singhal didn’t just plan a celebration of love - they planned a celebration for the planet too. Instead of the usual extravagance and single-use plastic, their big day was completely zero-waste and plastic-free.
Finding a venue that would ditch bottles and disposables was tough, but they made it work with steel utensils, jugs, and reusable glasses. Invitations were mostly digital, and return gifts were thoughtfully crafted by local women who make eco-friendly products, boosting their livelihoods. One of the most meaningful touches was giving guests seed balls - clay balls embedded with seeds that can grow into plants - encouraging everyone to plant something and keep the message alive.
They also set up a donation corner for notebooks, pens, clothes and toys, turning a personal celebration into an opportunity to help others. Nearly 300 guests left inspired, carrying home jute bags and seed balls - not plastic waste. Their wedding diverted tens of kilograms of plastic from landfills, proving meaningful celebrations don’t need to leave a trash trail.
