OpenAI is gearing up to launch Sora 2, a standalone AI video app resembling TikTok, where every video is AI-generated. Users can create 10-second clips using OpenAI’s latest video model and navigate through a vertical feed with swipe-to-scroll, like, comment, or remix videos. The app also has identity verification, letting users allow others to generate clips using their likeness, and sends notifications whenever their image is used-even in draft videos.
Internally, Sora 2 has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from OpenAI employees, who reportedly spend hours experimenting with it. The app is seen as a potential game-changer for AI-generated video, similar to how ChatGPT popularized AI text. Sora 2 will compete with Meta’s Vibes and Google’s Veo 3 on YouTube, while TikTok cautiously updates its AI content rules.
However, OpenAI faces legal challenges over copyright and is working to enhance teen safety with parental controls and an age-prediction system. Videos may be blocked due to copyright safeguards or filters. Experts see Sora 2 as part of a growing AI video revolution, raising both excitement and caution among creators and regulators.
